Building a sustainable tomorrow

Does the opportunity to contribute to improving the sustainability performance of a large multinational company excite you? Do you have the capabilities to play a pivotal role in coordinating sustainability themes and to deduct valuable insights to advise colleagues across the business? Then keep reading…

What will you do

As a sustainability manager at Royal BAM, you will be part of a specialised Strategy Team advising our Executive Committee and senior leadership on our strategic direction. Sustainability is a core component of BAM’s strategy, updated in early 2023 (link) to focus on social and environmental themes like decarbonisation, climate adaptation, circularity, and biodiversity.

We are looking to expand our team with a sustainability manager to enhance our response to sustainability trends and maintain our industry-leading position. In this role, you will facilitate knowledge sharing, coordinate initiatives, and support the implementation of BAM’s sustainability strategy. You will work with experts on key environmental topics, generate management information, and propose improvements for sustainability performance. You will also shape the company’s strategy by managing strategic initiatives and setting future targets, responding dynamically to new situations and demands.

In this role, you will deal with these responsibilities:

  • You establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders on the topics decarbonisation, climate adaptation, circularity and biodiversity;
  • You review sustainability data and translate that into BAM’s sustainability narrative, for example in quarterly reports and BAM’s Annual Report;
  • You inform management on progress against targets and advise management on future target setting and strategy development;
  • You contribute to the implementation of non-financial trends and regulations, such as the CSRD, and set-up and improve reporting processes accordingly, particularly on the topics Scope 3 (value chain) emissions and biodiversity;
  • You lead BAM’s participation in sustainability benchmarks (e.g. CDP);
  • You maintain a constructive relationship.

Your work environment

The team you will work in consists of three colleagues who all work on the strategy in the field of sustainability. It is a small department that works independently to a large extent, but also in close collaboration with various sustainability stakeholders across the business. The role is based at BAM’s headquarters in Bunnik, but we offer the flexibility to work partly remote.
