The winning project was in part initiated to accommodate the requirements imposed by REACH (the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals) and the Algemene Beoordelingsmethodiek voor stoffen en preparaten (-General Assessment Methodology for chemicals and preparations’, ABM). The system developed by Sasol Servo can be used to gain an insight into product data and the safety, health, and environmental information for the requisite product; this information can also be supplemented with financial and economic data. The collated information offers an efficient manner to assign priorities, and to arrive at carefully-considered decisions as to the retention of specific chemicals or products in the product range. The information system also enables companies to comply with the provisions of the Algemene Beoordelingsmethodiek (-General Assessment Method’, ABM), and with the EU obligation for the maintenance of a labelling inventory. Sasol Servo developed the information system in collaboration with Sachem Europe BV and Royal Haskoning.
Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Olst, received an honourable mention from the jury for the company’s Maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen in de praktijk -Corporate Social Responsibility in Practice’ project.
Responsible Care
The Responsible-Care Award, introduced by the Association of the Dutch Chemical Industry (VNCI) in 1999, is designed to provide further encouragement to its members in their endeavours to continually improve their safety, health and environmental performance. The entries are assessed by an independent jury, chaired by Mr M.E.E. Enthoven, and comprised of members from the government, the environmentalist movement, and chemical companies.
