Friends Ivory & Sime (FIS), a leading player in Socially Responsible Investment with over Ã??33 billion in assets under management, published the results of a large-scale survey entitled The Governance of Bribery and Corruption: A Survey of Current Practice. The study investigates how businesses are facing up to the risks posed by bribery and corruption.
The research, conducted among 82 multinationals drawn from across the UK and Continental Europe, addresses how companies assess the potential risks posed by operating in corrupt environments, and what measures they have in place to manage them.
The research highlights that 59% of companies surveyed report having a code of conduct that makes reference to bribery and corruption, fewer than a quarter report having the clearly-defined management systems and lines of accountability that would be needed to back up their policy commitment.
Through reoÃ??, its pioneering engagement approach, Friends Ivory & Sime engages in dialogue with companies in which it holds shares, with a view to better assessing the quality of their risk management systems and encouraging the adoption of improved social, environmental and corporate governance practices, where these can enhance shareholder value.
