Ingka Group is excited to announced that it will take part in Count Us In, a global movement aiming to mobilise one billion people to take practical steps to reduce carbon emissions and challenge leaders to act more boldly on climate. Count Us In was launched at TED Countdown, a global initiative to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis, turning ideas into action.
On Saturday 10 October Jesper Brodin, CEO, Ingka Group and Pia Heidenmark Cook, Chief Sustainability Officer, Ingka Group, took part in TED Countdown, where they, together with other leading thinkers and doers, talked about what a healthy, abundant, zero-emission future can look like.
“We believe that urgency and optimism create action, and we need to act now. Many solutions already exist and if we all do our part, we can solve the climate crisis. IKEA is committed to becoming climate positive by 2030, and when we do our part as a business and enable customers to do their part, through inspiration in our stores and other touch points, via our Better Living app and Count Us In, we can make a difference”, said Pia Heidenmark Cook, Chief Sustainability Officer, Ingka Group.
Count Us In focuses on engaging individuals who are not currently active on climate issues, setting out 16 practical and high impact steps individuals can take to protect the planet from carbon pollution before it’s too late. The steps are derived from experts and research at the UN Environment Programme and other partners, and provide a practical way for us all to understand how we can play our part in tackling what can otherwise feel like an overwhelming challenge.
Individual action can make a significant impact: if 1 billion people take practical action in their own lives, they could reduce as much as 20 percent of global carbon emissions. On the Count Us In global action platform people can log their actions, which are then added up to show the difference we can all make by acting together.
IKEA customers and co-workers can join the campaign by logging climate-friendly actions in the @IKEA Better Living app, one of four official partner platforms within the Count Us In Campaign. The app raises awareness about individual climate footprint, provides tips on living a sustainable lifestyle and organizes occasional challenges where co-workers and customers can have a positive planet contribution together with all the other users. Through the Better Living app, Ikea aims to inspire more people to live more climate-friendly everyday lives.
Ingka Group is proud to join Count Us In, together with a diverse coalition of partners and individuals. Our planet is the only home that we have. If we want to continue living on it tomorrow, we have to change our habits today. The good news is that achieving this has never been more possible than now.
