Online session: Meaningful stakeholder engagement, a key element of OECD-aligned human rights due diligence

Meaningful stakeholder engagement is a key element of OECD-aligned human rights due diligence. It is even more imminent considering the upcoming EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). However, many questions arise for garment brands: which stakeholders to include at what level and step of the due diligence cycle? What makes engagement meaningful? And wat type of engagement is suited at what moment?

About the online session

In this session, the STITCH partnership, together with industry representatives, will stimulate a knowledge exchange to accelerate industry alignment on what meaningful stakeholder engagement entails.

To this end, representatives from civil society, trade unions, business and multi-stakeholder initiatives will share their initial observations on meaningful stakeholder engagement, based on practical examples and experiences.

The audience will be invited to complement the presentation with their own ideas, experiences and examples.

Over the last years, STITCH has advanced the stimulation of meaningful stakeholder engagement. We do this for example through apps and surveys. Our aim is to include workers’ voices in workplace monitoring and setting up social- and sourcing dialogue structures between different industry stakeholders.

These organisations represent and connect different actors across the supply chain.

STITCH combines knowledge based on the experiences of collaborating with key supply chain actors from the garment- and textile sector.

Next steps

Following this OECD side session, STITCH will continue developing a framework for meaningful stakeholder engagement. We will base this on the experiences and knowledge shared throughout the session and with audience members who flag interest in getting involved.
