Webinar 'Future Islands: Sustainable Dutch Caribbean'

The six islands pertaining to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands must become a showcase of sustainability. That’s what Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Policy, Rob Jetten, wrote in his letter to the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer). The Minister, member of political party D66, is discussing the possibilities with the six islands concerned. Energy policy is a matter that is managed autonomously by the so-called CAS nations (CAS-landen of CAS-eilanden), Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten, but some challenges they simply can’t face on their own. More news about support for the islands is expected after the summer.

Naturally, planning and financial support are very much necessary to realize the plans, and awareness and the sharing of knowledge are essential parts of the process. The Future Islands knowledge platform has started supporting this process of increasing awareness and sharing knowledge in 2021. Supported by reports on current news and affairs, blogs by our very own Future Guides, and interviews, we aim at encouraging communication, connection and action between the many different people and parties active in the Dutch Caribbean. To do so, we follow five major themes, namely Sustainability, Social Improvement, Smart Mobility, Smart WorkPlace, and Circular Economy.

Our first webinar, titled “Future Islands”, will take a deeper look at these challenges. The webinar will be interactive and the audience will get the chance to actively participate. Participation is free of charge.
