This report is based on recent in-depth interviews and background analyses on a group of 55 sustainability pioneers: Chief Executive Officers and Board Members from across continents and industries who are making progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals in tandem with commercial results. Leaders on boards and in the C-suite have a huge opportunity to make sustainability central to their organization’s culture and leadership, yet only in 4% per cent of non-executive and senior executive appointments is sustainable leadership a requirement.

What organizations require when they select new leaders (be they internal or external) has major consequences for the company’s strategy and culture.
