KPN has been listed for the seventh consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI). This means that KPN is one of the most sustainable telecom companies in the world, according to independent experts.
KPN scored well with its environmental policy, innovation management and network reliability amongst others, according figures published today. In total, 82 telecommunications companies were invited this year to have their sustainability performance assessed and nine were included in the DJSI world index. Since 2012, KPN has been consistently included in this global index, an important benchmark for investors in the area of sustainability. Last year KPN was ranked “industry leader” in the telecommunications sector.
Maximo Ibarra, CEO of KPN: “We firmly believe that doing business in a sustainable manner is in the long-term interests of all our stakeholders. We are therefore pleased that our efforts in this field have again received international recognition through this DJSI ranking.”
KPN has been working for years to reduce its CO2-emissions. The company has been climate neutral since 2015 and is well on its way to halving its energy consumption by 2030 compared to 2010, despite the expected exponential growth of data traffic due to the further digitalization of society and the expected growth from the Internet of Things. KPN is responsible for approximately 0.8% of Dutch electricity consumption. The company helps customers reduce their own CO2-emissions and also contributes through its products and services in areas such as Smart Cities or healthcare in other ways to tackling societal challenges.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index, introduced in 1999, reflects the sustainability scores of the 2500 largest listed companies in the world and is divided into sectors. The ranking is based on economic, social and environmental performance.
