Job description

The Stewardship Specialist, Fiduciary Manager Responsible Investment (FMRI) is a strategic advisor to our pension fund clients and is responsible for providing Engagement & Corporate Governance policy advice to the clients, providing Stewardship-related input to Fiduciary Managers and the embedding of Engagement & Corporate Governance priorities in the development and realization of Fiduciary advice, decisions and execution reviews. This all-in line with client requirements, laws and regulations and the overall fiduciary strategy and vision of APG AM, in order to contribute to the successful realization of the clients Stewardship strategy.

The role is situated within the department of the Chief Fiduciary Officer (CFi). CFi is designed to act as a trusted and independent advisor of our pension fund clients. It advises clients on strategic balance-sheet and investment management strategy, and translates the client strategy into a tangible set of mandates. CFi evaluates the performance of selected internal and external asset managers and keeps oversight over the risk and return of clients’ total investment portfolios. The Head of the FM department is a member of APG Asset Management’s Management Board.

As a Fiduciary Manager RI your daily work includes:

  • First point of contact for clients on Engagement policy & Corporate Governanceand Voting policy , questions and related topics, act as an independent advisor to clients and ultimately responsible for defining assignments and delivery thereof;
  • Advising clients on Engagement & Corporate Governance regulation, sector standards and best practices, and work alongside climate, biodiversity and social specialists to integrate ESG considerations into engagement and voting policies and plans;
  • Responding to client ad-hoc requests for reports, memos, slide decks and other materials on Engagement & Corporate Governance in order for them to communicate with a variety of stakeholders and to inform our internal stakeholders;
  • Developing and writing thought leadership Engagement programs & Voting policy, in collaboration with internal portfolio managers and sector analysts, including setting priority themes and clear engagement objectives and asks;
  • Providing your colleagues within the FM department (Client Managers, Fiduciary Managers, Research, Strategists, Reporting Officers) with Engagement policy & Corporate Governance knowledge and sharing your expertise.
  • Advising and translating clients’ Engagement policy & Corporate Governance policy into the mandates of specific asset classes (asset classes divided between team members);
  • Carrying out regular monitoring and review of the implementation and execution of clients’ Engagement & Corporate Governance RI policy and programs, as carried out by portfolio management;
  • Communicating Engagement & Corporate Governance and ESG-related expectations through client public communications in efforts to influence investee companies;
  • Liaising closely with with external Engagement & Corporate Governance experts in the industry tostay informed about market developments and monitor external developments/trends in the area of Engagement & Corporate Governance & RI;
  • Developing thought leadership on Engagement policy & Corporate Governance, liaising closely with engagement and corporate governance expects in the industry to stay informed about market developments and monitor external developments/trends in the area of stewardship.
